What is the Sepoy Mutiny?
Sepoy Mutiny, also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1875 or the Sepoy Rebellion, happened in India during 1875 when the British East India Company stationed themselves there. After long years of unfair treatment, social cohesion, and the accumulated, long-held grievances of the sepoys, an uprising was stimulated, causing an original spark to burst into flames. Before anyone expected the riot, the Sepoy gathered their forces and encouraged the Natives to rebel against the British. Sepoy soldiers were Indian soldiers who worked for the British East India Company armies, and were often mistreated for their race. Even though slavery was not considered to be existent, the British treated the Indians like it is, in harsh and injustice ways, which caused India to diminish in power under the iron rule of the British government.
